10 Apr New GDPR law – The countdown is on
The GDPR comes into effect on the 25th of May 2018, and the clock is ticking. This law applies to all 27 countries of the European union and affects all companies doing business in Europe including non-European entities that sell products or provide services in Europe
The primary beneficiaries of this regulation are the users, whose private data will be protected. It is also an opportunity for companies to reinforce their infrastructure and have state-of-the-art data security.
Companies also face the digital revolution ahead of them which will shape the way they function and handle sensitive or even personal user data. The main provisions of the regulation are to ensure the following:
– The collection of data will be limited and justified with the user having the right to erasure and portability of data.
– Privacy and confidentiality will have the highest priority, with the companies being liable for up to 4% of their global turnover or 20M€ for any breach of data.
– Secure practices are implemented and risks are analysed and dealt with in all stages from design and development to operations.
